Central Nervous System Tumors Area
"We continue to research into new treatment strategies, aware of the need to offer patients a longer life expectancy".
DR. JAIME GÁLLEGO COORDINATOR. CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM TUMORS AREA
Our Central Nervous System Tumors Area of the Cancer Center Clínica Universidad de Navarra offers maximum safety and efficiency in brain tumour surgery, as it is the first hospital with a high field magnetic resonance within the operating theatre.
Coordinated multidisciplinary teams with over 15 years of experience and the incorporation of the most advanced technology make the Clinic a benchmark centre in the treatment of these tumours.
One of the outstanding characteristics of the Clinic is the intense research work carried out in this field by specialists from the medical centre, together with researchers from the Cima Universidad de Navarra and other international laboratories, such as that of the MD Anderson Hospital in Houston. The results obtained allow for the application of the most advanced therapies to patients with this tumour.
The combination of these factors makes it possible to offer high-resolution medicine, providing a diagnosis in 24-48 hours and treatment in just 72 hours.

Intraoperative magnetic resonance
We possess a 3 Tesla magnetic resonance imaging system in the operating room. A high precision image during the surgery process enables surgeon to check in a real time a degree of the tumour and the need to adjust the resection.

Fluorescent microscope
Fluorescent microscope surgery stains the tumour tissue in a different colour from the healthy one and allows the surgeon to distinguish the margins of the tumour that is to be removed.

Radiotherapy
Novel techniques such as three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy, beam intensity modulated radiotherapy and stereotactic techniques that require state-of-the-art linear accelerators and significant computer support.
