Proton treatment
Proton therapy’s unique properties offer cancer patients great benefits.
Proton therapy is the most precise form of external radiotherapy available, ensuring better distribution of the exact dosage (dosimetric precision, i.e. exact radiation dose and location) and therefore less irradiation of healthy tissues and lower risk of unnecessary radiation-induced effects (secondary tumors).
Its application represents a major advance in clinical treatment based on the dosimetric benefit obtained, which is superior for protons compared to any other form of high-precision radiotherapy available.

The Bragg peak
Protons have the unique ability to release most of their energy at a specific point within the tissue — known as the Bragg peak. Unlike conventional X-rays, which deposit energy along their entire path, protons stop at this precise point without irradiating the tissues beyond the tumor.
This makes it possible to deliver a high dose of radiation directly to the lesion with exceptional precision, minimizing damage to the surrounding healthy tissues.
Proton therapy benefits
Lower toxicity
Avoids short- and long-term adverse effects on healthy tissues
Greater precision
A high-energy beam deposited in the exact treatment location
Greater control
Minimizes unnecessary scatter radiation to healthy surrounding tissues
